• MAT 16X8 on a MPC

I did a test with a MPC Live 2. Thanks to a friend, who kindly made his MPC available to me, I was able to test the MAT on it. At first I thought it would not be recognized until I found the “AUDIO DEVICE” setting in the MPC settings. This means that the interface is recognized, but not all inputs and outputs, only 4 in and 4 out I think I remember. However, a special “32 INPUTS/OUTPUTS” mode can be activated here (strangely, the project then has to be reloaded, but this was only necessary once) and then all…

  • Detail photo of MAT 16X8 prototype with 3d printed frame and new switch design

Maybe, I will probably stick to the current design and plan to manufacture the MAT 16X8 in the PCB sandwich construction. I am trying to reinforce the PCBs on the surface with an additional layer to eliminate the last risks of damage to the conductors. The first version may be also available without the frame. The frame might be purchased separately if required or printed yourself using a (good) 3D printer (I will put the STL data online).I also added a new switcher cap to the 3d printed frame to make it even more robust and comfortable to use:

  • A lot of people are asking about Eurorack compatibility. Currently the MAT is designed for use with AUDIO SIGNAL levels and offers low noise and high dynamic range. CV output: The 8 outputs are already DC-coupled and offer a voltage range of approx. -2.5V to 2.5V, which already enables a kind of CV control (5 octaves). However, this is more of a side effect and not the intended application. CV input: The 16 inputs are NOT DC-coupled and are only intended for audio purposes. You would need level converters to supply them with Eurorack audio levels. But they are quite…

  • Opened MAT 16X8 rendering

Some more Information: In the meantime, I have received a lot of feedback, requests and unanswered questions. I have therefore made the description on the main page a little more precise. I initially thought of offering the MAT 16X8 as a kit for self-assembly (DIY), as I had anticipated a rather small number of units. However, it looks like I can expect enough orders to be able to deliver a fully assembled device. I’m also thinking about the housing or frame, which may even be made of aluminum and the circuit boards can also be fitted with protective plates to…

  • Nick Batt from sonicstate giving an intervew with Martin from Modular Audio Tools at Superbooth 24

Superbooth 2024 was a great event for me. I met a lot of people I only know from the internet. The world of electronic music comes together in this place. It was very important for me to get an impression of the interest in the MAT 16X8, and I was not disappointed. At the same time, I was able to make a lot of contacts and I am confident that I will be able to bring the MAT 16X8 to life. Sonicstate One of the biggest impacts for MAT 16X8 was definitely the interview that Nick Batt from Sonicstate did…

  • Sven and Martin at Superbooth 24

We’ve just arrived back in Munich, pretty exhausted but very happy. The Superbooth was great, the MAT 16X8 attracted a lot of interest and I’m currently getting a lot of positive feedback. There are signs that a crowdfunding campaign could start soon or perhaps we will find a distributor right away. Before that, I need to get a better idea of the number of potential buyers so that I can calculate the prices. So be sure to register for the newsletter , that’s the indicator for me of the number of people interested, even though I know not everyone will…
