Important notice:

We have deliberately chosen NOT to include a USB or MIDI cable, as customers often already have suitable cables, and individual requirements regarding cable length, connector type, and shape vary greatly. Additionally, we want to avoid placing an unnecessary burden on the environment by including a cable that may not be suitable.

Please use an existing cable or purchase a High-Speed USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to USB-A cable that is best suited for your application. USB-C to USB-A adapter plugs also work with USB-C-only cables if the host computer or hub does not have a USB-C port.

Manual

The MAT 16X8 was primarily developed for use in mobile, hybrid setups for live musicians and DJs. It offers a wide range of audio inputs and outputs, MIDI, and an adjustable headphone amplifier. This allows for the integration of analog and digital sound sources in an unprecedentedly compact and lightweight form factor.

With 16 input and 8 output channels, it enables a wide range of applications when connected to a computer or tablet, such as a digital mixer, DJ setup, multi-channel sound reinforcement, digital effects unit, and more.

The design of the MAT 16X8 is stripped down to the essentials without compromising on quality. The high-quality analog-to-digital converters provide a wide dynamic range and feature very low self-noise. The special design of the circuit board housing saves space, weight, and resources, yet remains highly robust.

Setup:

The MAT 16X8 connects to a computer, laptop, or tablet via the USB port. The connection is USB 2.0 High Speed compatible and allows the use of adapter cables with USB-A connectors. Since individual requirements for the cable to be used vary greatly (length, connector type, and shape), we have decided not to include a cable for the sake of the environment. Both data and power are transmitted via this single cable. Thanks to USB Audio 2.0 compatibility, the MAT 16X8 works with a wide range of devices running Windows, macOS, iOS, or Linux. Many standalone music production systems are also supported. If the system supports USB Audio 2.0 class-compliant audio interfaces, it will most likely work with the MAT 16X8. For Windows, an ASIO driver can be downloaded from this website to achieve optimal performance.

After connecting the MAT 16X8 to the computer, one of the two red LEDs lights up. It appears as an audio device in the corresponding software or in the system. If it is activated in the system for audio input and output, the second LED also lights up. The sample rate can be set within a range of 41.1 kHz to 96 kHz. Audio data is always output at 24-bit resolution. The achievable round-trip latency depends on the set buffer size and the computer’s processing speed. With appropriate settings, latencies below 4 ms can be achieved, but this must be determined individually for each configuration.

The MAT 16X8 always outputs the full signal level at outputs 1-4. The volume must be adjusted on the computer. Therefore, when connecting the device, ensure that no signal is being output and adjust the output volume via software or on the connected amplifier.

The headphone jack has its own volume control (1). Be careful not to set this too loud to avoid hearing damage. Always turn the volume control all the way down before connecting and putting on headphones, and then carefully turn it up. Use the switch (2) to select whether the headphones output channels 1/2 or 3/4.

Designed to enable the connection of many analog audio devices in the most compact form factor possible for mobile use, it allows analog audio devices such as synthesizers or drum machines to be connected to a computer or mobile device in the smallest and lightest form factor. It supports 8 stereo inputs (16 channels) and 4 stereo outputs (8 channels), as well as MIDI In and Out via an Audio Class 2.0-compliant USB interface. The consistent use of 3.5mm mini-jack sockets enables this compact and lightweight form factor. Many devices, especially small ones, can be connected directly using a TRS mini-jack cable. For larger devices, a wide variety of adapter cables are available on the market. The MAT deliberately omits additional preamplifiers and operates by default with audio level signals of 2.1 V RMS (+/- 2.5 V)*. Since the signals enter the high-quality converters unaltered, a very low noise floor is achieved.

*Future firmware versions may expand or configure this range as needed.
